Hatred behind Synagogue Attack in Germany is Condemned

“The shootings outside the synagogue and at a nearby Turkish kebab shop in the city of Halle, Germany, are repulsive.

Our thoughts are with the families of victims and everyone affected by the brutal killings in Germany.

The fact that the attack occurred outside the synagogue on the day of Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish tradition, makes it even more devastating and calamitous.

Due to the recent terrorist attacks on mosques, we Muslims are far too aware of the pain and grief experienced when worshippers are targeted in places of worship. We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community in this time of sorrow.

Islamophobia and Antisemitism have been on the rise in recent years and this is yet another expression of increasing attacks on Jews.

Our communities must stand together against hatred and intolerance and confront all those who promote an ideology and philosophy based on hate and terror.”

Imam Qari Asim, Chair of Mosques & Imams National Advisory Board.
