MINAB supports Srebrenica Memorial Day

Statement of Support on Srebrenica Memorial Day 2019

On Srebrenica Memorial Day, 11 July 2019, MINAB  remembers the 24th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. On this day in 1995, 8,372 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were murdered, simply because of their religious identity.

MINAB recognise that no society is invulnerable to prejudice and intolerance, and that we must continue to take positive action to build stronger, more resilient communities.

MINAB commend Remembering Srebrenica’s theme, “Bridging the Divide: Confronting Hate”, which seeks to inspire people to challenge those who promote division; celebrate those who build bridges between communities; and encourage others to build bridges of their own.

MINAB support the work of Remembering Srebrenica and affirm our commitment to:

  • condemn and challenge all forms of hatred, intolerance, denial, prejudice and discrimination;
  • champion diversity while celebrating those who promote peace and understanding between communities; and
  • promote awareness and understanding of the lessons from Srebrenica and the consequences of hate.

MINAB hope others will join us  in honouring the victims killed in Srebrenica, and reflect on how we all – as individuals, groups and communities – can come together to build a society free from hatred.
